About

Shawn has extensive experience tuning, voicing, and regulating some of the world’s most exclusive pianos for a broad range of professional artists and “serious” amateurs, and he can improve the stability and tone of even the most “humble” piano.

Skylark Piano Service has serviced pianos for over 50,000 clients throughout the Bay Area and Sacramento.

I have relationships with most manufacturers, and can perform warranty service on most brands.

In addition to maintaining pianos for private clients, churches, studios, institutions, teachers and professionals, Skylark Piano Service has been selected to be the exclusive independent "Service Department" for many piano dealers.

What I Offer

Tuning:

The proper adjustment of pitch. Unless otherwise specified, your piano will be tuned to the international standard pitch, A-440.

Voicing:

The adjustment of “tone,” which you can think of as the “brightness” or “mellowness” of the sound. Although “concert-level” voicing can be time-consuming, sometimes a tuned piano only needs a few minutes of voicing to create a sweeter and more balanced tone.

Regulation:

Any of the numerous types of adjustments that can be made to improve the sensitivity and responsiveness of the keys and mechanism.

Repairs:

If it’s broken, sticky, squeaky, buzzy, dead or dying, I can fix it!

Pricing

NEW CLIENT TUNINGS:

🗸 The charge is $275

🗸 Typically takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

REPEAT CLIENT TUNINGS:

🗸 Pianos that I have tuned within the last 2 years are $235.

🗸 Over two years the charge is $275.

🗸 Tunings typically take 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

MECHANICAL PROBLEMS

At the time of tuning: Additional service is pro-rated at $180/hr. For example, if a service - fixing a broken string, sticky key, noisy pedal, etc. – took 30 minutes there would be an additional $90 charge.

If you think you will need additional repairs or service at the time of tuning it MUST be specified when scheduling, so that sufficient time can be allotted.
