Prices

How much will it cost to tune my piano?

Our lowest price tuners start at $125. Shawn Skylark's rates are as follows: The base tuning rate is $175. First time visits will cost either $175 or $215, depending on the condition of the instrument. (If a pitch-raise is needed the cost will be $215.) (See: What is a Pitch-Raise? What is A440?) Prices for our other associates will fall somewhere in-between.

Why do tuning and service rates vary among different tuners?

Many reasons, but mostly having to do with the skill and experience of the technician. Just because someone arrives to "tune" your piano does not mean they will do the same quality job.

An experienced tuner will leave the piano sounding better, at the correct pitch, and much more likely to remain stable, and stay in tune longer

An experienced tuner will spot simple maintenance needs that may not cost extra but will keep your piano in better working condition for a longer period of time

An experienced tuner will be able to answer questions, give sound, unbiased advice, and will take the time to do the job right

Some tuners arrive and "finish" in less than 30 minutes, others spend two hours or more. Although most do not charge specifically by the hour, the amount of time he or she spends on average clearly affects the basic fee
